As election day nears, it’s important to be well-informed when casting your vote on November 5th.
In the Snowline Joint Unified School District, Board of Trustees Area 2, there is an upcoming election for one position. Two candidates, Corey LaFever and Jennifer Rader, are vying for the spot where neither of the candidates currently holds the position.
Both candidates attended the NewsPlus Candidate Form and Meet & Greet event on Thursday, October 10th at the Phelan Community Building and responded to questions about student mental health, teacher retention, and Measure J, while also discussing their top 3 priorities for the Snowline School District.
NewsPlus also contacted both candidates listed in the Official Candidate List on the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters website and have included Candidate Statements from those who submitted them. For candidates from whom we did not receive a statement, we have included any statements that were printed in the 2024 voter guide.

Corey LaFever
Sheriff Sergeant /Father
As a father of four girls, and having a background in law enforcement, Corey LaFever is focused on safety, education, mutual respect and accountability. He believes a safe learning environment for students and staff is crucial to creating the school environment our students deserve. Corey LaFever promotes an all-hands-on-deck approach in the community to provide the best education for all students. It has been said, “it takes a village to raise a child.” As a tri-community, we must come together to help our students learn to respect others, build upon their talents, and help create new skills for their success. Corey and his wife Erin, were raised by this “village” and have chosen to raise their own family here as well. As a school board member, Corey LaFever will strive to have an open mind and provide a listening ear for the students and taxpayers he’ll be elected to represent. He will strive to bridge the gap between community members and administration to make a difference. It is Corey’s goal to provide the necessary education for Snowline students to be the highest functioning citizens. May we come together to build relationships of trust to help our students reach their potential.
Thank you for your support.

JENNIFER RADER
Teacher

Greetings! My name is Jennifer Rader, and I have been a teacher for 34 years, 30 of those years in the high desert region. I am the mother of two children who came up through the Snowline Joint Unified School District, and are successful and productive citizens, due in part to the excellent education they received through SJUSD. I understand clearly what it means to be a trustee of a school district, and I have a sincere desire to work hard improving conditions for the students, families, and employees of the SJUSD. This is my first foray into public office, and I have no aspirations past our local community. If I can earn your trust and your vote, I will serve the community faithfully. If elected, my role will involve facilitating open communication channels among the superintendent, the school board, and the community. Focusing on student wellness is also a priority. I am dedicated to advocating for programs that foster more than just academic achievement. These programs will support the overall wellbeing of our students. This includes providing mental health resources and offering a range of extra curricular activities. Together we can tackle the challenges facing our schools.
