On October 23rd, the 11th Annual Frightwood 5K, Mini Monster Mile, and Drac Dash took place at Wrightwood Elementary School. After taking the 2020 year off, the event returned to a great turn out.
The 2021 Frightwood 5K is officially behind us, and for those who attended it was a fun filled family event where everyone was dressed in Halloween costumes.
The races began at 4pm, with the first one featuring the youngest runners. The Drac Dash had four contestants participating, and the winner of the sprint was three your old Charleigh Burns, who was wearing the costume of Sally from A Nightmare Before Christmas.
At 4:15pm participants of the Mini Monster Mile were directed to Apple Avenue, where the starting line for the next two races began. The mile run attracted around 30 young runners and a few adults. Along the trail, the local Community Emergency Response Team directed traffic at intersections ensuring a safe route for the joggers.
The Serrano Drama Club was also in attendance at Frightwood, hiding behind cars and bushes throughout the course giving runners a few scares along the way.
The 5K began around 4:45pm, and there were over 100 participants. The 5K was a team and singles event, and most teams were identifiable by their matching costumes.
The winner of the 5K Run was Christopher De La Vega, who came all the way from Pasadena to participate in the fun. He finished the three mile race with the time of 19:15. The first woman to cross the finish line was Adelina Zylker. Her time was 24:53. The first team to finish the race was Team Fruit Loops with the time of 31:36.
