The Community Teaching Garden in Phelan will be holding a class on planting a winter garden and planting trees on November 14th at 10:30am.
It may be surprising, but winter gardens do great in Phelan, even if it snows. Last winter, even after two significant snowfalls, the plants in the outside garden area at our facility did fabulous even after 2 inches of snow covering them for more than seven days at one point. Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, celery, kale, and Brussel sprouts love the cold weather.
At last month’s class at the community teaching garden, attendees learned about harvesting and composting. The Community Teaching Garden is located at Warbler Road in Phelan, behind the PPHCSD Office Building in the dirt lot beyond the gate. Every class each month is free, and you can start at any time of the year, whether you attended the prior class or not.
