Monthly Themed Senior Lunches In Wrightwood Brings Community Together

Wrightwood Seniors are learning the ancient art of the Hula during the June Senior Lunch Program.

Each month, a senior citizen lunch in Wrightwood draws good attendance. Held at the Community Building, it features delicious home-cooked food prepared by local volunteers certified in food preparation in the certified kitchen at the WWCSD.

A small group of creative, hardworking volunteers—Vicky Rinek, Robin Crouch, Cynthia Fleury, and Maria Rivera—set up and prepare a new theme and corresponding meal each month.

June’s theme was a Hawaiian luau. The building was authentically decorated with tiki masks and grass skirts. Each guest was welcomed with a Hawaiian lei. The menu included meatballs and vegetable skewers cooked to perfection, along with a fantastic leafy green salad served with tropical fruit.

With about 40 people seated, everyone was pleasantly surprised to see entertainment had been planned. Two outstanding hula dancers and a bamboo performer entertained the guests. The performers took time to teach the group a few hula dance moves and explained how each move tells a story.

The theme for July is Independence Day on Wednesday, July 10th. This lunch is free, but donations are welcome and help cover the cost of supplies each month. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month.
