The Tri-Community Supports its Veterans: Pride in our country and support for our troops and veterans are longstanding traditions in the Tri-Community which has deep military roots going back to the 1940s.

On Monday, May 31st, Memorial Day ceremonies will be held at the Wrightwood Veterans Memorial Park and the VFW Post 9415.  Both events begin at 11am.

Congressman Jay Obernolte, who represents California’s 8th Congressional District, will attend the Wrightwood Veterans Memorial ceremony at the Memorial Park and will join them as they honor the sacrifices made by the men and women who fought and died for our country.  Veterans Memorial President Allan Miller said, “It is indeed a special day that our Representative in Congress will be with us at this significant event” in a statement released to the press.

The ceremony will have a regular program that includes Pastor Dave Conrad, Claudia Campbell, and members from Boy Scout Troop 351.  Girl Scout will participate during the wreath-laying ceremony, and Congressman Obernolte will be the featured speaker.  Chairs will be provided to those in attendance.

The VFW will also be hosting a Memorial Day ceremony that will include the Raising of The Flag, Flag Retirement, and POW/MIA ceremonies.  Afterward, those in attendance will join in a potluck.  A sign-up list for the potluck is available at the post located at 4892 Nielson Rd in Phelan and the public is encouraged to attend.  This year, local Vietnam veteran and former POW John Tuggle will participate in the POW/MIA ceremony, giving extra meaning to an already emotional event.
