There is still time to sign up for the September CERT training course. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) offers a free 20-hour basic training course on disaster preparedness. Wrightwood CERT will host the course over three days, starting on Friday evening, Sept. 13, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Wrightwood Methodist Church, located at 1543 Barbara St., Wrightwood. The second and third sessions will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14 and 15, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wrightwood Community Building, 1275 Hwy 2, Wrightwood. Attendance at all three classes is required to receive a CERT certificate.
The course provides basic disaster response skills, including fire safety, light search and rescue, and disaster medical operations. Participants will learn steps to take before a disaster, how to care for themselves and their families during a disaster, and how to recover quickly afterward.
The class is open to anyone 18 and over, or 16 if accompanied by a parent, living in the Tri-Community area of Wrightwood, Phelan, and Pinon Hills, or San Bernardino County. To register or obtain more information, please email [email protected].
