The Wrightwood Property Owners Association (WPOA) has launched a community-wide fundraising campaign to build a new regulation-size basketball court and possibly four pickleball courts at Wrightwood Elementary School.
The project will replace the school’s aging basketball court and create a recreational space that will serve students during school hours and the community on evenings, weekends, holidays, and summer breaks through the existing Joint Use Agreement in partnership with Snowline Joint Unified School District and the Wrightwood Community Services District.
For many local children, this court is the only easily accessible place to play basketball in town. The existing basketball court has served many generations, but today it is undersized, cracked, and no longer meets the needs of the growing community.
The total estimated cost of the project is $144,866 and the Snowline Joint Unified School District Board has already voted in favor of funding a portion of the project by committing $75,000. This leaves approximately $69,866 to be raised through community donations, business sponsorships, grants, and in-kind contributions.
Once completed, the project will include: A full-size regulation basketball court, up to four regulation pickleball courts, which the Wrightwood Community Services District Parks and Recreation Department plans to oversee maintenance and programming for the courts. Project organizers say the new basketball and pickleball courts will provide local youth and residents with opportunities to stay active, connect with neighbors, and participate in organized recreation for years to come.
The WPOA is inviting local residents, businesses, corporations, and community organizations to help make the project a reality through financial contributions or donations of equipment and materials.
