April 16: Daily COVID-19 Update

Don Fish Jr COVID-19, Health & Wellness COVID-19

FROM THE WHITE HOUSE:

President Trump, today, outlined guidelines to begin reopening states. The broad guidelines outline criteria for states to follow as they begin reopening while leaving specific plans to state governors.

Tax Day has been moved from April 15 to July 15.

FROM THE STATE:

On Tuesday, Governor Gavin Newsom announced six indicators that will help guide how and when California may begin to reopen its economy. “This isn’t about an on/off switch. This will be a thoughtful process led by public health.” said the Governor.

On Wednesday, Governor Newsom announced a first-in-the-nation fund to help California’s immigrant families. A $125 million disaster relief fund was established to give relief to undocumented immigrants who won’t be getting stimulus checks from the federal government. Each adult would get $500 with a cap of $1000 per household. “10% of California’s workforce is undocumented. And though they paid over $2.5 billion in local and state taxes last year, they benefit from neither unemployment insurance nor the $2.2 trillion stimulus package,” said Governor Newsom.

Today, Governor Newsom signed an executive order increasing sanitary measures and giving two weeks of supplemental paid sick leave for workers in the food sector.

In an effort to aid Californians due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 California tax file and pay deadlines have officially been extended. The new File and Pay deadline is July 15, 2020. For more information visit FTB.CA.GOV
