Major Hwy 2 closures caused by the 2025-2026 Winter Storm have forced a full course change for the 2026 Angeles Crest 100 Mile Endurance Run (AC100).
The event, known as the AC100, was first held in 1986 and has since become a long-standing fixture in the endurance running community. It is considered one of the original five 100-mile races in the United States.
From 1986 to 2006, the race had experienced no Hwy 2 or closures or fire disruptions. But in the past 20 years, forest fires and storms have brought significant damage to Hwy 2, effecting the course. Normally the AC100 would start in Wrightwood and finish in Altadena. But for this year’s 2026 AC100, the race will be a point-to-point race, starting and finishing at Loma Alta Park in Altadena. This will be the first time in the race’s history to start in Altadena.
The rerouted course is due to the 2025/2026 Winter Storm that caused significant damage to Hwy 2 in two key areas: Between Vincent Gap and Islip Saddle and near Mt Waterman Ski Area. As a result, Hwy 2 is currently closed between Three Points and Cloudburst at Big Pines near Wrightwood.
For now the race is scheduled for October 3, 2026 and will take place in Altadena. For more information about the race, including course maps, check out the AC100 website at www.ac100.com.
